About Euchre

Euchre is a fast-paced, strategic trick-taking card game perfect for four players. Played in partnerships, it combines quick thinking with teamwork as you and your partner work together to win tricks and score points.

What makes Euchre special is its unique trump system featuring the "bowers" - the Jack of the trump suit (Right Bower) and the Jack of the same color (Left Bower) become the two highest cards in the game. This twist creates exciting strategic decisions as you bid to name trump and try to win at least three of the five tricks.

Whether you grew up playing Euchre at family gatherings in Michigan, Ohio, or Indiana, or you're discovering it for the first time, our online version captures all the excitement of the classic game with modern convenience.

History of Euchre

Euchre has deep roots in American culture, particularly in the Midwest where it remains one of the most popular card games. The game evolved from a German game called Jucker (meaning Jack) and became widely popular in the United States during the 19th century.

The game was so influential that the Joker card was actually invented specifically for Euchre! Originally called the "Best Bower" or "Imperial Bower," this extra card was added to American decks around the 1860s to serve as the highest trump card in Euchre.

Today, Euchre tournaments are held across the Midwest, and the game remains a beloved tradition at family gatherings, bars, and social clubs throughout the region.
